MESECK FAMILY FARMS

Henry and Henrietta Meseck left Pomerania, Germany with their two small children in search of the “American Dream.” On June 10, 1872, Henry and Henrietta Meseck arrived in Chicago to head west and eventually settled in Crawford County around 1875. On June 28, 1882, they purchased 40 acres north of Charter Oak, Iowa from the American Emigrant Company for $320, and they became the first generation to farm the land. Within the next several years, Henry and Henrietta accumulated around 800 acres of land and raised 12 children.

The land has a long and interesting history, which includes portions of it being sold to the Boyer Valley Railway Company in 1898 when the railroad was first built to Ricketts, Iowa. This small section of land was eventually bought back in 1957, but remnants of the railroad can still be found throughout the track of land to this day.

Five generations of Mesecks have owned and toiled over the land. We are incredibly thankful and proud to have farmed this ground since 1882. We would like to raise a toast to honor the legacy that Henry and Henrietta set forth when they came to the United States in search of a better life for their young family. Let us not take for granted the countless opportunities that arise when hard work meets passion and resilience.
